Our Formulas

What are hero oils?

Hero Oils are the ingredients in each of our formulas that boast powerful skincare benefits and act as the foundation for the efficacy of the product. Each formula was created around an oil with restoring, clarifying, and firming abilities, and each has a subtle, gorgeous smell that people will be happy to use on their bodies.

Our Firming Oil relies on Juniper as its hero ingredient. Juniper helps reduce the look of cellulite by decreasing water retention and promoting cell regeneration. Juniper also acts as a natural toner and reduces the appearance of skin blemishes.

Our Restorative Oil is anchored by antioxidant-packed carrot seed. Carrot CO2 is a powerful nutritive oil that soothes irritated skin and can help reverse cellular damage from environmental stressors like the sun. Carrot seed absorbs into the skin easily and can help reduce the appearance of aging.

Our Clarifying Oil leans on cypress as its hero ingredient to tone and treat discoloration. Cypress helps to move fluids throughout the body and promotes circulation for a more even and glowing skin tone. Cypress is known for its stimulating properties and acts as a natural brightener for the skin.

Why essential oils?

Aromatic plants have been used throughout history for skincare and wellness dating back to the ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. Essential oils are concentrated aromatic extracts that are distilled, cold pressed or CO2 extracted from flowers, fruits and zests, leaves, grasses, roots, seeds, woods and resins. In the early 1960s, French scientist Marguerite Maury’s work in the early 1960s paved the way in understanding the benefits of essential oils on the skin. She is responsible for successfully merging aromatherapy with skincare in a way that is still used today. The tiny molecules in essential oils allow them to penetrate the skin deeply, making them highly effective for nurturing and regeneration.

Can I use these on my face?

Yes! Esker body oils are made from premium, natural ingredients that are gentle enough to use on your face. While Esker oils have been specifically formulated to benefit the body and to act as a functional and essential element of a bodycare routine, they are still equally as gentle and nourishing for the face.

Do essential oils irritate your skin?

Not when used correctly! Some essential oils can irritate your skin, especially when exposed to sunlight, but this occurs only when they are not properly diluted with carrier oils. Just like herbs, essential oils are derived from a range of natural plants and serve a variety of functions, they possess different aromas, boast different beneficial skincare properties and more. Given the vast variety of oils and their functions, to claim that all essential oils may irritate the skin is not accurate! Our formulas contain carefully chosen essential oils known for their skincare benefits and their ability to work in tandem to restore skin. All of our oils are formulated at safe, effective concentrations and are gentle and absorb easily.

Are Esker products safe to use while pregnant and/or nursing?

All of our products are completely safe for adults, but some of our products contain natural ingredients that have yet to be proven completely safe for growing little ones. That being said, all of our products are 100% natural, use pure and gentle ingredients formulated at safe concentrations, and have been tested and have met all safety standards, so many of us (including our founder) have used the entire Esker line during pregnancy and breastfeeding. We want you to feel total peace of mind when you use our products, so we recommend consulting your doctor first and making the choice you feel most comfortable with for yourself and your baby.

Product Questions

Where should I store my product?

We recommend storing your product away from direct sunlight to preserve the potency of its natural ingredients.

What is the shelf life?

Esker is good for up to 3 years but will be most potent in the first 12 months.

Is Esker vegan?

Yes. Esker products are natural, plant-based, and Leaping Bunny certified.

Do you test on animals?

Never. Esker is proud to be Leaping Bunny certified, cruelty free and vegan. The Leaping Bunny cruelty free certification is considered the global gold standard for cosmetics and personal care products. To get certified, we underwent a rigorous independent audit ensuring that all of our products are free from animal testing. Esker is made up of a team of animal-loving humans and scruffy rescue dogs.

Where is the product made?

Our vegan, plant-based essential oils and carrier oils are harvested on farms from around the world, and all of our bottling and assembly is done in the US in a cruelty-free, Leaping Bunny Certified facility.

What is a CO2 extract?

Essential oils are traditionally derived using steam distillation, a process that yields a concentrated pure plant liquid. By contrast, supercritical extraction or CO2 extraction occurs from a process where pressurized gas dissolves the natural components of the plant into a liquid format. CO2 extracts are incredibly potent and pure, having never been exposed to chemicals or heat. We use the supercritical extraction method in the production of our body oils to ensure that your skin is receiving the purest, most potent oils available that go the extra mile in hydrating and nourishing skin.

Are you EU compliant?

Yes! Becoming EU compliant means we have met some of the highest, most rigid cosmetic standards in the world. Every single ingredient we use in our products has been rigorously tested for stability, its shelf life, whether or not its cruelty-free, and whether or not our manufacturing practices to create our products are safe.

Packaging Questions

Where did the name Esker come from?

An esker is a geological formation that's created from a long windy ridge of gravel and sediment made from the meltwater of ice. When founder Shannon Davenport first saw an image of one, it struck her that it almost looked like a vein from an aerial view. Aside from their intricate beauty, she was inspired to name her brand after these formations because she felt they resembled the connection between our skin and the earth.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Virtually all of the packaging material housing our oils is recyclable including glass bottles and PET bottles. All of the packaging cardboard and box material is made from recycled materials.

The Allover Roller packaging is almost 100% recyclable and plastic-free. The only piece that requires removal is the magnetic closure, which can be trimmed or torn off. We also encourage upcycling, so feel free to take out the inner tray and reuse!

What do the colors on the packaging mean?

Esker has an innovative packaging concept that helps decode ingredient contents and to ensure transparency on the ingredients we use and how we are using them. The color grid on each bottle coordinates with the most active ingredients and their strength within the formula. Active ingredients and the strength of each are noted on each bottle to illuminate how these ingredients compliment one another. Each shade is inspired by the actual color of the plant in nature.
